Sileni Estates ‘Hedonist’ Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2015

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-Jun-2016
Bright, light straw colour with slight green hues, lighter edged. The nose is fresh with tightly bound and elegantly presented aromas of citrus zest intermingling with soft apricot notes, exotic florals, and ginger and herb elements. The aromatics are pure and focussed with good intensity. Dryish to taste, the palate possesses a moderately concentrated and rounded core with flavours of citrus zest, apricots and exotic florals with ginger elements. The fruit and mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity, and the wine follows a smooth, fine-textured line with a suggestion of unctuousness. The wine flows with goof energy and cut to an elegantly concentrated finish with citrus, apricot and floral nuances. This is a finely concentrated and textured, refreshing Viognier with underlying richness. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Te Awanga district, cool-fermented in tank to 14.0% alc. and 4.7 g/L RS, the wine aged in seasoned oak undergoing batonnage. 17.5-/20 Jun 2016 RRP $24.99
