Sileni Estates ‘Exceptional Vintage’ Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Jun-2016
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some garnet hues, a little lighter on the edge. This has a full, solid, but rounded bouquet with a deep core of ripe dark-red berry fruit entwined with savoury, secondary and complexing notes of dark and dried herbs, subtle, nutty oak, liquorice, spices and nuances of stalk. This has depth and power on the nose. Full-bodied, the palate is rich and fulsome with packed flavours sweetly ripe dark-red berry, black plum and liquorice, along with a layering of dark and savoury herbs. The mouthfeel is robust and filling, the fruit supported by grainy tannin grip and structure. This has real power and drive, and the palate leads to a strong, but rounded finish of savoury red fruit and herbs with liquorice detail. This is a fulsome and robust, rounded Pinot Noir with ripe dark berried fruits and liquorice flavours and plenty of structure and power. Serve with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6 years. Clones 114, 115 and 667 from the Mangatahi terraces, destemmed and fermented, 30% with indigenous yeasts to 14.5% alc., the wine on skins 4 weeks and aged 9 months in 20% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Jun 2016 RRP $69.99
