Sileni Estates ‘Cellar Selection’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Jun-2016
Full, deep, dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with lighter purple hues on the rim. The nose is firm and finely concentrated with moderately deep aromas of ripe black berry and black plum fruit entwined with some curranty and herbal notes. Earthy and mineral detail emerges in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate has concentrated and firmly bound flavours of blackberries, black plums and blackcurrants at the heart. The fruit possesses sweetness, richness and vitality, the mouthfeel enlivened by fresh, brisk acidity. The fruit is supported by fine-grained, supple tannin extraction forming a good core and line that carries the flavours to a long and sustained black-fruited and mineral-nuanced finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, black-fruited Merlot with a fresh mouthfeel, good core and line. Match with roasted lamb and beef dishes over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the Bridge Pa Triangle fermented to 13.5% alc., a small portion of the wine given oak contact. 17.0/20 Jun 2016 RRP $19.99
