Sherwood Estate ‘Waipara Collection’ ‘Nor’wester’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 22-Apr-2015
Ruby-red colour with some depth and lighter garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is fresh with attractively aromatic, dark raspberry and black cherry fruit aromas entwined with complex dried and fresh herbal nuances, the nose lifted by violet floral and raspberry liqueur detail. Medium-full bodied, soft and plush red berry fruit and red plum flavours are sweet and up-front, revealing a soft herbal infusion. The fruit is underlined by soft, supple tannins and fine acidity lending a smooth-flowing, satin-textured line. This is elegant and harmonious, and the flavours recede to a gently sweet-fruited finish with a fine, dry grip. This is an attractively aromatic, upfront, sweet and plush Pinot Noir with flavours of red fruits entwined with herbs. Match with poultry, pork and Mediterranean fare over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Stirling’, ‘Church Road’ and ‘Terrace’ vineyards in Waipara, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous fermented with a portion of whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 25 days on skins and aged 12 months in 45% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Apr 2015 RRP $29.95
