Sherwood Estate ‘Stratum’ Waipara Valley Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 11-Jun-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues, pale edged. This has a light, gently rich nose of lime fruit with honey, sherbet and toasty notes and botrytis-like talc. The bouquet reveals subtle savoury, sour apple and nutty, secondary nuances in the glass. Medium to medium-dry to taste, a complex amalgam of honeysuckle, citrus fruits and talc is framed by dry, grainy textures and a little phenolic grip. The acidity is soft and the sweetness carries the flavours to a mellow, rounded finish with sour apple elements. This is a medium Riesling with honied fruit, savoury secondary development and dry textures. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the ‘Stirling’ and ‘Georges Road’ vineyards, cool-fermented to 12.5% alc. and 20 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees 5 months. 16.0/20 Jun 2013 RRP $14.95
