Sherwood Estate ‘Stoney Range’ Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2018

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 31-Jan-2019
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. This has o soft and full nose, quite rounded in presentation, with plenty of vinosity, the aromatics showing honey and savoury yellow stonefruits, suggestions of botrytis along with subtle nutty notes at the heart, unfolding savoury floral and musky nuances. Dryish to taste, the palate has rounded and rich, exotic flavours of savoury honeysuckle and florals, along with savoury honey, floral and stonefruit layers with nutty detail. The palate has soft phenolic textures and fresh, lacy acidity enlivening the mouthfeel. The flavours carry with plenty of presence to a lingering savoury finish. This is a fulsome, rounded, off-dry Pinot Gris with savoury, stonefruit and honeysuckle flavours with floral and nutty notes on a slightly phenolic palate. Match with Middle Eastern fare over the next 2-3 years. Pinot Gris fruit from the ‘Pilgrim’, ‘Terraces’, ‘Georges Road’ and ‘Stirling’ vineyards, with small portions of whole bunch fermentation, skin contact, indigenous yeast and barrel-fermentation to 14.0% alc. and 6.5 g/L RS. 16.0+/20 Jan 2019 RRP $17.00
