Sherwood Estate ‘Sherwood’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2016

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 06-Jun-2017
Even red colour with some depth and light garnet hues on the rim. The nose is softly full with gentle, ethereal aromas of red berry fruits and red florals interwoven with a little nutty and resinous oak, some dustiness, unfolding spice notes. Medium-bodied, the flavours of savoury strawberry fruit are light and restrained in expression, revealing notes of plum jam and soft nutty oak elements. The fruit sweetness is balanced by light, supple, grainy tannins that allow the fruit richness to build and form a good core. The acidity is integrated and the flavours flow smoothly with moderate linearity leading to a light, but fresh finish with some grip. This is a light flavoured, savoury strawberry-fruited Pinot Noir which builds in sweetness, forming a well-balanced palate with fine textures. Match with poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the ‘Terraces’, ‘Georges Road’ ‘Church Road’, ‘Glasnevin’ and ‘Stirling’ vineyards, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 24 days on skins and aged 9 months in oak barrels. 17.0-/20 Jun 2017 RRP $21.99
