Sherwood Estate ‘Heritage Collection’ ‘R D 1’ Waipara Valley Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 11-Jun-2013
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues at the heart. This has a full and complex nose, packed with savoury dark plum fruit aromas with dried herb and earthy notes along with seasoned wood elements providing an inkiness. Full-bodied, rich and fulsome flavours grow to show an array of harmoniously integrated, savoury plum, black pepper, liquorice and cedary notes that unfold in waves. The acidity is soft and fine-grained tannins support the fruit. The flavours flow smoothly and seamlessly, revealing liquorice, spices and hints of cedar which linger on a long and sustained finish. This is a subtle, but rich and seamless Syrah that blossoms in the glass. Match with wild duck and pork, hare and slow-cooked game meat over the next 5-6+ years. Fruit from the ‘Terrace’ vineyard, soaked and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 30 days on skins and aged 21 months in French oak barriques. 18.0-/20 Jun 2013 RRP $29.95
