Selaks ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-May-2014
Full, very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. This has a gently full nose of ripe dark plum aromas intermingling with black and redcurrant notes, the aromatics unfolding with good depth and breadth. Medium-full bodied, up-front and bright fruit flavours of black plums, and curranty fruits show with freshness, vibrancy and richness. The flavours are mouthfilling and lively with ripe acidity, and follow a fine, grainy-textured line through the palate. The wine is well-balanced for accessibility, but has the grip for proper vinous structure, which carries the flavours to an elegant, spiced plum finish. This is an up-front, accessible Merlot/Cabernet blend with bright plum and curranty fruit and balanced structure. Serve with pasta, pizza, and barbecued red meat dishes over the next 4 years. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, fruit primarily from the ‘Corner 50’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in a mixture of tank, and French and American oak barrels. 17.0/20 May 2014 RRP $16.99
