Seifried Nelson Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 14-Feb-2011
The Seifrieds have recognised the importance of this variety by top-grafting it onto vines established over the past 28 years in their Redwood Valley vineyard. Fruit here supplemented with a small proportion of Cornfield and Rabbit Island fruit is the origin of this wine. It was fermented to a moderate 12.5% alc. and 11.3 g/L rs. Soft straw yellow in colour, this has a fulsome , vibrant and lively bouquet of fresh stonefruit, with tropical and spice notes overlaid by the classical pear-drop Pinot Gris varietal aromas. Off-dry to taste, the lifted pear-drop fruit is to the fore, and the lovely oily, unctuous texture is well-balanced by fresh acidity. A richness and warmth is apparent, but the wine finishes with a clean, almost steely, mineral note. This will be a versatile food wine with seafood and Asian cuisine over the next 2-3 years. 18.0-/20 Jan 2011 RRP $20.50
