86% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah and 1% Malbec from Dry Creek, Alexander and Russian River Valleys, fermented to 14.6% alc., the wine aged nearly 16 months in new and seasoned Hungarian and Russian oak. Dark, deep ruby-red colour with garnet hues on the rim. This has a bold and brash bouquet with ripe fruit aromas of raspberries, blueberries and redcurrants, along with dark herbs and undergrowth, the oaking subtle and balanced. Full-bodied, rich and robust on palate, the mouthfeel features ripe dark-red and blue berried fruit and sweet, jammy plum flavours. The tannin extraction grows to provide a grainy structure, and good acid liveliness lends energy to the mouthfeel. The flavours are carried by the tannin drive to a bright, fruity and vibrant finish. This is a full and robust, lively and fruit-expressive Zinfandel to match most roasted red meat dishes and barbecued fare over the next 4-5 years. 3,800 cases made. 17.5/20 Sep 2014 RRP $20.99
