79% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah, 2% Malbec and 1% Barbera, mainly from Dry Creek, Alexander, Chalk Hill and Russian River Valleys, the Petite Sirah from Stanislaus County. Fermented to 14.8% alc., the wine aged 15 ½ months in Hungarian and Russian oak barrels, a portion new. Dark ruby-red colour with black hues, lighter on rim. This has a softly packed, deep nose of blackberry fruit intermixed with dark plum and blueberry notes, revealing cedary oak and lifted volatility nuances. Full-bodied with mellow and sweetly ripe flavours of plums and blueberries, lifted and cedary oak elements add layers of interest. The mouthfeel is smooth and rounded with low acidity and soft grainy tannins adding to the breadth on palate. The alcohol becomes evident, providing warmth, generosity and power to the finish. This is a soft, cedary Zinfandel with some lift and alcoholic warmth. Serve with slow-cooked game meat over the next 3-4+ years. 5,500 cases made. 16.5+/20 Feb 2014 RRP $20.99
