Sea Level ‘Home Block’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 21-Aug-2015
Moderately deep, garnet red colour with light brick hues on edge. The bouquet is full and gentle with soft, harmoniously integrated aromas of soft red berry fruits and red florals entwined with layers of savoury earth, dried herbs and secondary undergrowth notes, along with cinnamon, spices and cedar. The aromatics build in depth and concentration in the glass. Medium-full bodied, soft, lusciously juicy flavours of savoury red berry fruits reveal layers of secondary earth, spice, dried herbs, undergrowth and cedar. The palate is seamless and the mouthfeel smooth and flowing with supple background tannins. The flavours recede as the wine leads to a light, soft, savoury red fruited and aromatic finish. This is a harmonious Pinot Noir with complex secondary flavours and a smooth, seamless mouthfeel. Match with risotto, pasta and pork over the next 3-4 years. Hand-picked fruit, destemmed and given a cold soak and fermented with a large portion of whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 40% new French oak barrels. 17..5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $24.95 Moderately deep ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is fresh with light, lifted aromas of cherries, raspberry essence and red florals in the cooler spectrum, and subtle herbal notes. Medium-full bodied, bright and vibrant cherry and berry fruit flavours are enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The fruit grows in depth and density, unfolding whole berry confectionary elements, dark florals and herbs. The extraction is modest and the tannins light, fine-grained and supple, allowing the fruit vitality and zesty mouthfeel feature. Dark plum, spices and oak emerge on the light, lingering finish. This is an elegant, vibrantly fruity Pinot Noir with good depth and a light, supple mouthfeel. Serve with antipasto, firm-fleshed seafood and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, destemmed and given a cold soak and fermented with a large portion of whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 40% new French oak barrels. 17.0+/20 Sep 2013 RRP $24.95
