Sculptureum ‘The Rodin Blend’ Matakana 2013

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 25-Nov-2014
Full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is elegant and gently concentrated with deep aromas of ripe blackberry fruit with dark plum, earth and cedary oak notes, unveiling fragrant blackcurrants, char and toast elements in the glass. Fullish bodied, the flavours of ripe black plums, berry fruits and liquorice fill the mouth. Blackcurrants, cassis, earthy nuances and cedary oak complexities unfold showing layers of interest. The palate is seriously extracted with the tannin grip and structure building to become the prominent feature. There is energy and drive with discreet acidity supporting the tannins. As the wine flows, the flavours recede, leading to an elegant, dry finish with currant and cedary nuances. This is a full-bodied red with plum, currant and cedary oak flavours enveloped by significant extract. Match with slow-cooked lamb over the next 7-9+ years. A single vineyard wine, 60% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot and 5% Carmenere, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 50% new French oak. Approx. 450 dozen made. 18.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $TBA
