Scott Base ‘Reserve’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 04-Apr-2016
Light, even ruby-red colour with pale purple hues on the rim. This has a elegantly concentrated and firm nose with aromas of dark red berry fruit and black cherries melded with dark thyme herb and nutty oak notes, along with subtle, savoury spice layers that unfold in the glass. Medium-full bodied, rich, juicy and luscious flavours of dark-red berry fruits are entwined with dark herb, nutty oak and spicy, earthy notes, forming a soft, but well-packed core. The fruit is supported by supple tannin structure and underlined by acid energy. The fruit grows in richness and carries to a long finish of dark-red fruits and spices. This is a rich, juicy and well-concentrated Pinot Noir with good energy and supple textures. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, the wine based on clones 777, 5 and 10/5, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 25-30 days on skins, the wine given extended maturation in 30-35% new French oak. 18.0/20 Apr 2016 RRP $49.95
