Dark ruby-red with slight purple hues, youthful appearance. The nose is refined with elegant, taut aromas of blackberry fruit entwined with spices, black and white pepper, dark herbs and floral notes. The aromatic concentration is a feature. Medium-bodied and tightly bound, the flavours of spicy black fruits unfold with layers of black and white pepper, herbs, violet florals and oak. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannin extraction, and the palate enlivened by fresh acidity. This has piquancy from edgy fruit with some cool-spectrum expression, and vitality from the acidity. The liveliness, tension and energy carry the wine to a long, lingering finish. Hand-picked fruit, fully destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 30 months in 35% new French oak barriques. 140 cases made. 18.5-/20 Dec 2016 RRP $65.00
