Schubert Syrah 2000

Syrah from New Zealand - North Island
Review Date : 03-Dec-2016
Dark, deep, ruby-red with garnet hues, fresh colour for a wine 15+ years old. The bouquet is full and voluminous, solidly packed and dense with savoury tertiary aromas of spicy brown fruit with dried herbs, game and earth, unfolding layers of undergrowth. The aromatics are harmoniously interwoven, but subtle red fruit notes emerge with aeration. This is fully mature. On palate, the fruit richness and sweetness still show, with red and brown fruits, savoury and spicy detail, dried herbs, earth and game flavours showing with vigour. The fruit is in balance with fine-grainy tannins, and the acidity lively. This has not dried out. The fruit flavours carry with length. This is mature, but still with life. Remarkable, especially for a 375 ml bottle. A blend of Hawke’s Bay fruit from Matariki, and Wairarapa fruit. (375 ml) 18.0/20 Dec 2016 RRP $N/A
