Schlumberger Alsace Grand Cru Pinot Gris ‘Kitterlé’ 2006

Pinot Gris from France - Alsace
Review Date : 07-Dec-2012
Brilliant, deep, light golden-yellow colour. This has a very full and intense bouquet of ripe tropical fruits intermixed with apricots and honey, revealing layers of toffee and caramel secondary aromas. Medium-dry to medium in sweetness, lusciously rich flavours of ripe tropical fruits are harmoniously combined with honey, caramel and toffee notes. This is unctuous in mouthfeel, the weight and roundness enhanced by low acidity. Some alcohol drive is present with a little phenolic grip which carries through to a robust finish marked by residual sugar. This is a decadent Pinot Gris with some underlying power that will give pleasure over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Kitterlé' grand cru, hand-picked and WBP, fermented to 13.09% alc. and 26.6 g/L rs, the wine aged 8 months on lees. 18.5-/20 Nov 2012 RRP $76.50 Fruit from the steep ‘Kitterlé' grand cru, fermented to 13.09% alc, with 26.6 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees 8 months. Bright golden-yellow colour, this is bold on bouquet with full, ripe yellow stonefruit aromas laced with soices and honey notes. On palate medium in sweetness, yet with restraint. The fruit weight is a feature, ripe stonefruits with tropical fruits, spices and honey and a little earthiness, enveloped by an unctuously textured mouthfeel. Soft and rounded, there is still sufficient acidity and alcohol for cut and drive. This is long and sustained on the finish. This will continue to drink on this plateau for 5-6+ years easily.  Aug 2011
