Schist Hills ‘Old Vineyard’ Central Otago Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 25-Jun-2012
Fruit from 30 y.o. vines from the Black Ridge vineyard, Alexandra, fermented to 14.0% alc. and 13.7 g/L rs. Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour with some lemon hues. Beautifully full, soft and ethereal aromas of rose-petal florals, talc and musk unfold in layers to become voluminous and intense. Medium-dryish to taste, subtle flavours of florals, honey, spices and musk build in intensity, but retain delicacy and vitality with lovely lacy acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky, near unctuously smooth, but there is excellent tension and freshness, revealing a deep core at the heart. The flavours are lingering and sustained with intricate nuances and subtle richness. This is a beautifully smooth and detailed Gewurztraminer with underlying richness and weight. Match with Middle Eastern dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 18.5/20 Jun 2012 RRP $28.95
