Schist Hills Central Otago Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 24-May-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is soft and fresh with fine and delicate aromas of white stonefruits lifted with Gewurztraminer-like notes of rose-petals, spices and herbs. Off-dry to taste, bright and aromatically lifted fruit flavours of stonefruits and subtle exotic florals feature and are enlivened by fresh and lacy acidity. A slightly phenolic, textural line guides the flow of the palate and some alcohol warmth is apparent, adding to the presence and the mouthfeel. The flavours lead to a dry, grainy finish with some spice and stonefruit elements. This is a delicate and attractively exotic, floral fruited Pinot Gris with some alcohol and textural drive. Serve with subtle Asian cuisine and white meat dishes over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Black Ridge’ vineyard, Alexandra, fermented partially in new French oak to 14.0% alc. and approx. 7 g/L rs. 16.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $26.95
