Sandalford Margaret River Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 21-Apr-2014
Very dark, purple-hued black-red colou, youthful in appearance. This has a softly full, mellow nose with restrained aromas of dark raspberries and spices, along with pepper and liquorice elements lifted with red floral notes. Fullish-bodied, the fruit is a little shy and held back in expression, showing gently vibrant and ripe raspberry flavours melded with spicy oak and pepper. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction forming a firm core. Some alcohol drive carries the wine to a concentrated, dry finish with light fruit and oak nuances. This is a restrained dark red fruited Shiraz with a firm structure and good drive. Match with slow-cooked Middle Eastern red meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier from the Margaret River, co-fermented to 14.8% alc., the wine aged for 3 months in 20% new French oak. 17.0+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $22.99
