Sandalford Margaret River Cabernet/Merlot 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 21-Apr-2014
77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Shiraz from the Margaret River, fermented to 15.0% alc. the wine aged 3 months in 20% new French oak. Deep black-red colour with purple hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is fine, firm and intense with blackcurrant and mint aromas entwined with eucalypt elements and cedary oak, the nose growing in depth in the glass. Medium-full bodied, a tight and well-concentrated core of curranty fruit, herbs and mint opens out with eucalypt and cedary oak to fill the mouth with sweetness. This has considerable alcoholic power and drive, along with fine grained tannin grip and structure to underline the fruit, carrying the flavours to a lingering finish with sweet oak nuances. This is a concentrated and bold Cabernet/Merlot with sweet fruit, power and structure. Match with roasted and grilled red meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $22.99
