Sama Pinot Noir 2022, Wairarapa

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 22-Jan-2024
Moderately deep ruby-red, even colour throughout. This has an enticing bouquet with aromas of cherry, raspberry, subtle herbs, sweet spice and floral. Medium-light bodied, aromas of cherry, strawberry and raspberry entwined with thyme, cinnamon and red floral. The mouthfeel is silky with dusty tannins; lacy acidity provides freshness and an enticing line to an elegant finish. This Pinot Noir shows the elegance of a red fruit spectrum accompanied by silky tannins and a balanced, lacy acid line—an exceptional effort in a challenging vintage. Match with pork rillette and duck breast over the next 5+ years. Fruit from Maggie's vineyard in Masterton, an almost 50-50% blend of clone 777 and Abel, destemmed and fermented separately, then pressed to blend and aged in old neutral French oak barrels for 18 months without sulphur. Bottles with a small amount of SO2, unfined, unfiltered. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Jan 2024
