Sama Pinot Gris 2022, Wairarapa

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 22-Jan-2024
Bright, even, pale burnt-orange colour. This has a captivative bouquet with aromas of stonefruit, pear, blood orange zest, sweet floral and burnt cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied, aromas of peach, ripe pear and blood orange zest are framed by firm phenolics, unfolding rooibos tea, cinnamon and sweet floral scents. The tightly bound mouthfeel is accompanied by lively, soft acidity, showing the sweet fruit and a savoury, moreish finish. This wine shows honesty, led by sweet fruit, a firm phenolic texture and a savoury, nuanced closing. Match with crispy pork belly and honey-glazed char-siu over the next 3 years. Fruit from North Wairarapa vineyards, fermented on skin, aged in old French oak barrels. 11.4% alc, unfined, unfiltered. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Jan 2024
