Darkish ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has a dense and intense nose of dark currants and plum fruits, herbs and mushrooms and a touch of resiny oak. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, the fruit is at the cooler end of the spectrum, showing fresh plum and berry flavours along with oak spice, herbs and earth, on a fine textured, youthfully firm palate. The acidity adds tension and freshness; the wine will benefit from a year or so in bottle, then drink over 3-5 years after with roast lamb. Fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barrel, 20% new. 16.5/20 Mar 2011 RRP $25.00.
