Saint Clair ‘Vicar’s Choice’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Bubbles 2010

Sparkling Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 14-Feb-2011
What is remarkable about this wine is its faithfulness to the Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc style. It certainly possesses all the family characteristics of ripe fruit expressed with pungency and passionfruit aromas and flavours, though somewhat adapted to the parameters of sparkling wine presentation in the mouth. Brilliant pale straw yellow in colour, this has the distinctive tropical fruit expression but definitely reduced to provide a degree of delicacy and cut that all refreshing sparkling wines should have. Made from fruit sourced from sites including the Rapaura, Lower Wairau and Brancott Valley, this was cool, stainless-steel fermented to 13.0% alc. The wine carries 7.8 g/L residual sugar; sufficient to add some round richness, thus avoiding any austerity. This has real general appeal, and can be sipped on its own, but will be an excellent aperitif wine, especially with seafood. 17.0/20 Nov 2010 $RRP $17.50
