Saint Clair Premium Merlot 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 31-Aug-2020
Deep, ruby-purple with some depth, lighter on edge. The nose is quite mealy and robust, aromas of plums and blackberries, entwined with meaty notes and barrel spices. Full-bodied, ripe fruit flavours of plums and blackberries have a good core, structured by fine-grained tannin extraction, lingers with meaty elements and fresh oak barrel spices. The fruit is juicy and bright, contributed the liveliness with balanced acidity, very approachable. Tannin provides a strong grip, along with barrel spices, added layers of interest, lingers to a sustained mealy finish. This is an easy-drinking full-bodied red with ripe fruit flavours of plums and blackberries, lively acidy balance and a meaty, full tannin structure. Match with beef steak and barbeque ribs over the next 3-4 years. 13.5% alc. 17.5/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $20
