Saint Clair ‘Premium’ Marlborough Gruner Veltliner 2012

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 23-May-2013
Second crop fruit from two sites. 50% hand-picked and WBP. The free run juice cool-fermented in stainless-steel, the press cut fermented in old oak and aged on lees. 13.11% alc and 4.1 g/L rs. Bright pale straw-yellow colour with light lemon-green hues, paler on rim. The nose is fresh and clear with light, bright aromas of grassy-herbs, white pepper and exotic stonefruits. The aromatics open in the glass becoming quite voluminous and up-front. Dry to taste, vibrantly juicy flavours of white and yellow florals combine with white pepper, herbs and stonefuits filling the palate. Crisp, lacy acidity enlivens the mouthfeel, providing tension and adding a degree of succulence. The fruit is guided by a fine, definite textural line, leading to a fresh, lingering finish with exotic floral and herb nuances. This is a lively and up-front, dry Gruner Veltliner with attractive freshness and fruit clarity. Serve with antipasto, seafood and poultry dishes over the next 3-4 years. 17.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $21.50
