Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 9 – Big John’ Marlborough Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 08-Apr-2015
Fruit from John Walsh’s Lower Brancott vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 9.0% alc., and 34.3 g/L RS, TA 6.2 g/L and pH 2.83. Bright pale straw-yellow colour with light lemon-green hues. This has a fresh bouquet with tightly concentrated aromas of green apples and limes, with subtle hints of toast and steely, mouthwatering minerals. The aromatics grow in depth and intensity of complexing detail with aeration. Medium-sweet to taste and elegant in presentation, tightly concentrated flavours of limes, minerals and toast form a firm core with considerable fruit extract and presence. The mouthfeel is racy and brisk with refined, thirst-quenching acidity lending a steeliness and cut. The wine flows with drive and linearity, along a very fine textured line, leading to a very long finish with apples, toast, honey and minerals. This tightly concentrated medium-sweet Riesling is beginning to show some toasty interest, but it will develop well over the next 5-6 years. Serve as an aperitif and with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. 18.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $26.90
