Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 5 – Bull Block’ Marlborough Gruner Veltliner 2011

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Feb-2013
First crop fruit from the ‘Bull Block' in the Omaka Valley, hand-picked and WBP, stainless-steel fermented with press components in old oak to 14.0% alc. and 4.1 g/L rs, the press wine aged on lees. Very pale straw, near colourless. The nose is softly full and openly accessible, with gentle and harmoniously entwined aromas of pepper, herbs and tropical fruits. Dryish to taste, the flavours are matty and a little diffuse, with yellow stonefruits, tropical fruit, herbs and a little grassiness softly filling the palate. The soft acidity and very fine, rounded textures are very gentle and pleasing. This is a flavoursome, riper wine, that is drinking well now. 17.0+/20 Feb 2013
