Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 4 – Sawcut’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Jul-2011
Bright straw-yellow colour with some green-gold hues. This has a very rich and powerful nose of ripe citrus, peach and tropical fruits along with sweet coconutty, vanilla infused oak aromatics that come to the fore. A full, rich, lusciously juicy wine with succulent citrus and peach-like fruit, the flavours of vanilla, toast and cream meld harmoniously together. Fine, fresh acidity underlines the palate line and gives sufficient tension to enliven the rounded creamy textures. The wine finishes with good length and nuances of butter and toasty oak. Clone 95 Chardonnay, vines 11 y.o., WBP, and fully barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., and aged 10 months in all French oak, 40% new, the wine undergoing MLF and given lees stirring. An almost-voluptuous Chardonnay with distinctive, but well-handled oaking that will match roasted pork dishes over the next 3-5 years. 18.5/20 Jul 2011 RRP $30.50
