Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 21 – Bell Block’ Marlbrorough Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Mar-2011
Made from fruit from Peter and Kath Campbell's vineyard, east of Blenheim by the ocean, in the lower Wairau Valley. Cool-fermented to 13.5% alc and 3.4 g/L rs. Pale straw in colour, youthful in appearance, this has a voluminous nose of ripe gooseberry and blackcurrant fruit aromas, remarkably restrained and reined in. It is the palate where this wine shines. Though the exuberant flavours are checked, the weight, presence and textures are sensational. The richness of the fruit has a glycerol-like effect, and even the acidity is unctuous. The subtlety is quite surprising, especially for a Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block' wine, but there is no denying its quality. Trophy for Champion Sauvignon Blanc at the 2010 N.Z. International Wine Show. 19.0/20 Nov 2010 RRP $23.50
