Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 17 – Plateau’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Mar-2016
Very dark, near saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a full, deeply concentrated and harmoniously layered nose of ripe blackberry fruit interwoven with nuances of boysenberries, black pepper, Asian spices and violet floral, unfolding plum jam and toasty oak elements with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is bright, vibrant and lusciously rich with ripe flavours of blackberries, boysenberries and black pepper. The mouthfeel is lively from fresh acidity and supple in texture from soft, rounded tannin extraction. The wine is juicy and the vitality carries the palate to a long and sustained finish with lusciously sweet and bright black fruits. This is a rich, juicy, ripe, black-fruited Syrah with a vibrant and lively mouthfeel and supple tannin structure. Match with game meat and casseroles over the next 5-6+ years. Fruit from the ‘Plateau’ vineyard on Omahu Road, in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak. 18.5/20 Mar 2016 RRP $37.90
