Full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is very full with soft and densely packed, ripe fruit aromas of black plums, blackberries and boysenberry fruit layered with iron-earth, spices, oak vanillins, cocoa dust and chocolate. Full-bodied, this is densely packed with masses of sweetly ripe black plum, blackberry and boysenberry fruit interwoven with flavours of iron-earth and tarry minerals, liquorice, spices and chocolate. The mouthfeel is fulsome with soft, fine-grained tannin extraction and structure and ripe, underlying acidity which lends a degree of vitality and poise. This has a positive drive and energy that carries the wine to a long and sustained finish of plums, liquorice and vanilla-like oak. This is a fulsome, densely packed, very ripe Merlot with plum, chocolate and vanilla flavours, and a softly driven palate. Match with barbecued and slow-cooled game meat dishes over the next 6-8 years. Merlot fruit given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 47% new American oak. 18.0/20 Jul 2015 RRP $37.90
