Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 15 – Strip Block’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Mar-2011
This ‘Block' wine is named after a strip of aged devigorating soils in the lower Waihopi Valley. Made from fruit from 6 y.o. vines, 667 and 777 clone, given a cold soak, fermented to 13.5% alc., then aged 10 months in 19% new French oak. Light ruby-red colour with garnet hues on edge, this has an intense, piercing bouquet of dark red berries, cherry fruit and cherry liqueur, along with fragrant red floral aromatics. Tight and concentrated on palate, this has densely packed red berry and raspberry fruit flavours at the core, framed by fine-grained tannin extract and fresh, crisp acidity. Lovely dried herb and floral nuances unfold in the glass, indicating this will improve over the next 4-5+ years. Match with most rich red meat dishes. 18.5-/20 Mar 2011 RRP $33.50
