Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Pinot Noir 2021, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Oct-2022
Deep ruby-red with a purple hue, lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full, sweet-fruited aromas of black cherry and blackberry melded with cinnamon and nutmeg. Medium-bodied, aromas of black cherry and blackberry interweave raspberry, nutmeg and cinnamon bark. The wine is youthful; the fruit is lush and bright with excellent acid support; fine-grained tannins contribute to a lovely structure and texture and will develop nicely in the next few years. This Pinot Noir is youthful with pure lush black and red fruit, lively acidity and a fine-textured palate. Match with duck and lamb over the next 8+ years. Fruit was sourced from own vineyard Doctor's Creek, south-west of Blenheim, clone 115, 667 and 777, cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented to 13% alc, racked off gross lees, then aged in seasoned 225-litre oak barrels for 11 months. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Oct 2022 RRP $39.99
