Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Pinot Noir 2019, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Oct-2022
Bright, deep ruby-red with good transparency, lighter on the rim. The nose is enticing, with red cherry and raspberry aromas entwined with savoury mushroom, game and spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of raspberry and cherry have a concentrated core, unfolding, game, thyme, sautee mushroom, nutmeg and black pepper. Savoury and spice notes lengthen by focused acidity; smooth tannin extraction adorned the palate in silk. This Pinot Noir shows excellent concentration and integration; savoury elements add interest and complexity. Match this with smoked duck and pork over the next 5-8 years. Fruit was sourced from own vineyard Doctor's Creek, south-west of Blenheim, clone 115, 667 and 777, cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented with 6% of whole clusters to 13.5% alc, racked off gross lees, then aged in 225-litre oak barrels for 11 months, 27% new oak. 19-/20 pts (95 pts) Oct 2022 RRP $39.99
