Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Pinot Noir 2017, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Oct-2022
Bright, deep ruby-red with a slightly garnet hue, slightly lighter on the rim. This has a gentle bouquet, penetrating earth, minerals, cherry and dried cranberry underlying spice and dried floral. Medium-bodied, concentrated cherry and dried cranberry aromas entwined with chanterelle mushroom, clay, dried flower and grounded spices. The flavours are gently developed with complexity; integration softens the spices and acid line and flows elegantly to a long, savoury finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with softened tannin integration. This pretty Pinot Noir shows graceful development and complexity with dried floral and fruit, unveiling clay, earthy and spice notes on a supple tannin palate. Match with braised duck and pork stew over the next 3-5 years. Fruit was sourced from own vineyard Doctor's Creek, south-west of Blenheim, clone 115 and 667, cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented with 9% of whole clusters to 13.5% alc, racked off gross lees, then aged in 225-litre oak barrels for 10 months, 40% new oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Oct 2022 RRP $39.99
