Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 14 – Doctor’s Creek’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Jul-2015
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with a lighter edge. This has a full, soft and openly up-front nose of aromatic dark red berry fruit with soft layers of plums and red florals, unveiling tamarillo, fresh herbs and oaky notes at the core. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft, plush and gently luscious flavours of ripe dark red berry fruits and plums, complexed by tamarillo, dark herb and red floral elements. The palate follows a fine-grained tannin line and structure, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. This is supple and quite accessible. Delicate herbal and toasty oak notes emerge, and along with the fruit, carries through to a lightly nuanced, sweet, plummy finish. This is a rich, plush and accessibly supple Pinot Noir with lively berry, plum and tamarillo flavours. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 4-5 years. Clones 115 and 667 given a cold soak and fermented with 14% whole clusters to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 ½ months in 41% new French oak barriques. 17.5+/20 Jul 2015 RRP $37.90
