Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 10 – Twin Hills’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Apr-2012
Mendoza and clone 95 from Saint Clair's ‘Twin Hills' block in the Omaka Valley, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in French oak with MLF and lees stirring. Bright straw yellow colour, lighter on edge. Bold and powerful aromas of concentrated and intensely packed ripe citrus fruits are interwoven with mealy, coconut notes, caramel and butter, along with complexing flinty elements. Full-bodied, rich, powerful and luscious flavours of ripe citrus and stonefruits unfold with layers of nutty oak, mealiness and spices. The palate is generous and warming, a little alcohol noticeable, but slippery acidity and smooth, near unctuous textures are a feature. The finish is very long and sustained, with lingering citrus and toast flavours. This is a bold and layered Chardonnay packed with fruit and oak, showing generosity and balance. Serve with grilled and roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 19.0/20 Apr 2012 RRP $30.50
