Saint Clair ‘Omaka Reserve’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Dec-2014
Bright, lemony straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The nose is fresh and firm, with tightly concentrated aromas of ripe citrus fruits along with a complex creamy amalgam of barrel-ferment nuttiness, sweet oak vanillins, toasty oak and buttery MLF notes. A fresh, steeliness adds to the lift and intensity. Medium-full bodied, this has a complex core of citrus fruits, creamy, barrel-ferment and buttery MLF elements melded with sweet vanilla and spicy, nutty oak. This is bold and deeply flavoured, the richness countered by a fine, dry, taut and textural line. The acidity is soft, enhancing the balancing firmness, and the wine flows with considerable drive and underlying power, carrying through to a flavour-packed finish of citrus fruits and sweet oak. This is a bold and flavoursome Chardonnay with citrus, cream and sweet oak flavours and a firm, balanced core. Match with roasted pork over the next 4-5 years. Mendoza and clone 95 fruit from the Southern Valleys, partially hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 50% new American oak, undergoing batonnage. 18.5+/20 Dec 2014 RRP $38.90 Pale straw colour, the nose is firmly held, but exudes real richness of ripe citrus and tropical fruit and bold oaking, showing lifted vanilla and savoury bacony-toasty oak melded with creamy, nutty barrel-ferment notes. Full-bodied, softly rich and mouthfilling, the palate unfolds waves of ripe tropical and citrus fruit, and layers of toasty oak. This is powerful, weighty and dense, with great drive and energy, and near unctuous in texture. This is Saint Clair at its exuberant best, not afraid of making a statement. 18.5+/20 RRP Jun 2014 $38.95
