Sacred Hill ‘Virgin’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 31-Jul-2014
This is very pale in colour with beautifully lifted aromatics of white florals and white stonefruits, still possessing some youthful fermentation esters. Markedly dry to taste and refined with its freshness, this is vibrant and vital with lifted, pure stonefruit and floral flavours, minerality even, underlined by the finest phenolics and driven by poised and piquant acidity. The linearity and finesse are remarkable features, but there is a brooding presence of complex detail and the promise of greater weight to emerge.  18.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $29.99 Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, very light on edge. The nose is fresh, pure and pristine with lifted aromas of white florals and white stonefruits infused with minerals and a suggestion of flinty detail, expressed with clarity and finesse. Dry to taste and elegant in proportion, bright and lively stonefruit flavours are enhanced by white floral and citrus elements. The palate is finely concentrated and underlined by delicate textures, with soft, ripe, mouthwatering acidity in support. While refined, there is vinosity, presence and drive which carries through to a fine, lingering and dry finish with soft stonefruit and mineral nuances. This is a very elegant, fine-featured and pristine, unoaked Chardonnay with stonefruit and minerally flavours. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Riflemans’ vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc., the wine aged on lees without oak contact 18.5/20 Jun 2014 RRP $29.99
