Sacred Hill ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Apr-2015
Hawke’s Bay fruit, 97.6% Merlot, 2.08% Cabernet Sauvignon, the remainder Malbec and Cabernet Franc, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in French oak. Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, very youthful in appearance. The bouquet is softly full and harmoniously integrated with aromas of ripe blackcurrant and black plum fruit, lifted by spicy and fragrant oak. Medium-full bodied, rich plush and juicy flavours of ripe blackberries, plums and blackcurrants feature on the palate and are enlivened by fresh, lacy and lively acidity. The up-front fruit is supported by fine, grainy-textured tannins that provide a firm, drying balance. Some alcohol power adds to the structure and drive and the flavours of blackcurrants and blackberries are carried to a long, slender finish. This is a juicy and up-front Merlot-based wine with lively black berried fruit flavours. Serve with barbecued and grilled red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. 17.0/20 Apr 2015 RRP $24.99
