Sacred Hill Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Feb-2011
The 2010 reds from the Gimblett Gravels are described as excellent by the growers. Made from 90% Syrah and 10% Malbec, fermented in closed tanks to 13.1% alc., and aged with a proportion of French oak, this has a bright and youthful purple-red colour and a fresh and accessible nose of bright dark-red fruits along with perfumes and esters of freshly fermented juice, plus a touch of savoury sulphide reduction. A near medium-weighted wine, this is soft and supple on palate, the floral and esters lift exhibited supplemented by a sweetness of fruit. There is some depth already, but the wine should come together with some concentration over time. Try from winter 2011 and drink over the next 2 years. 16.5/20 Dec 2010 RRP $21.99
