Sacred Hill ‘HALO’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Oct-2015
Hawke’s Bay fruit, hand-picked, destemmed and fermented with whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in French oak barriques. Very dark, near impenetrable, black-hued purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has an up-front, broad nose of very ripe blackberry and blue fruits with dark raspberry and plum aromas, unfolding harmonious layers of roasted meats, black pepper, violet florals and some jam elements. Medium-full bodied, rich, plush and juicy flavours of ripe black and dark red berry and plum flavours feature on the palate. Layers of spice, black pepper and roasted meats emerge, along with lifted violet florals. The fruit sweetness is balanced by soft, grainy tannins and structure, filling the mouth with fulsome textures. The fruit richness carries the wine with energy and drive to a long, lingering dry finish of black and red fruits and floral notes. This is a plush, juicy, ripe Syrah with ripe black berry and plum fruits, some pepper and game interest and grainy tannin structure. Serve with lamb, beef and slow-cooked meats and casseroles over the next 5+ years. 17.5/20 Oct 2015 RRP $29.99
