Sacred Hill ‘HALO’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Dec-2013
Fruit from the Gimblett Gravels fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak. Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is light and somewhat restrained, showing spicy black berry fruit with black pepper, along with complexing violetty florals, game notes and a suggestion of minerally reduction. Medium-bodied, the flavours are initially shy, but grow to unfold layers of black fruits, Asian spices and black pepper, lifted with attractive violet florals. The fruit is the focus, with moderate extraction, the tannins fine and supple. Bright acidity enlivens the mouthfeel, enhancing the fruit sweetness and carries the flavours to spicy melange on the finish. A little shy in expression, this supple, accessible Syrah grows to show spicy black fruit and peppery flavours. Match with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean inspired dishes over the next 4-5 years. 17.0+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $29.99
