Ruru Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 14-Aug-2020
Deep, ruby-red with some transparency, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is soft with nuances of black cherries, blackberries, warm spices and a gamey underlay. Medium-full bodied, savoury tone across the palate with flavours of dark herbs, black liquorice, blackberries and black cherries, melded with earth and game. There is a concentrated core of fruit, densely weighted, along with the dark herbs and earthy element, contributed to the richness and body to the wine. The tannin extraction is noticeable with a good grip, fine-grained and silky, framed the dark fruit and savoury wine with structure and poise. This is a savoury Pinot Noir with dark fruit and herbs characters on a silky tannin structured palate with some richness. Match with lamb shoulders and duck over the next 3-5 years. 18/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $25
