Ruru Chardonnay 2018, Central Otago

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 14-Aug-2020
Bright, medium straw-yellow, even throughout. The bouquet is up-front and vibrant with aromas of citrus, peach, melon, along with toasty oak nuances of vanilla bean, toasted brioche with butter and almonds. Medium-bodied, stonefruit and melon have a good core of flavours, entwined with citrus pith, almond, vanilla bean, toasty oak, buttery pastry. The wine is smooth-flowing on a whipped butter texture line, along with lacy acidity carries good energy and flows to linearity. The fruit is ripe and sweet-scented, complimenting the almond and toasty oak element. This is an up-front medium-bodied Chardonnay with ripe fruit flavours of peach and melon, toasty oak detail on a buttery texture line. Match with chicken and potato gratin over the next 2-3 years. 17+/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $24
