Ruffino ‘Modus’ Toscana IGT 2012

Blended Red from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 28-Mar-2016
Full, very dark, black-hued garnet-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has a full, soft nose with a good core of ripe dark-red and black plum fruit harmoniously entwined with dark red cherries, blackcurrants, earth and subtle, funky game elements, unfolding nuances of dried herbs and oak toast. Medium-full bodied, this has fulsome, up-front and open palate with plush and sweet flavours of black plums and black berried fruits, dried cherries and herbs, along with savoury nutty and gamey nuances. The mouthfeel is fleshy and accessible, the fruit supported by supple tannin extraction. There is plenty of grip and structure, and fresh, underlying acidity, and the wine leads to a long, sweet, black-fruited finish with fine tannin textures. This is a rich, plush, black fruited Sangiovese blend with good structure and accessibility. Serve with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-7+ years. A blend of 50% Sangiovese and 25% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced primarily from the company’s ‘Poggio Casciano’ estate and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in small French and American oak casks. RRP $39.99
