Ruffino ‘Lodola Nuova’ Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2011

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 28-Mar-2016
Moderately dark, deep garnet-red colour with light brick hues on the rim. The bouquet is rich and well-concentrated with aromas of savoury cherry and soft-red berry fruits entwined with earth, dried herb and leathery notes. This has a firm core that unfolds subtle red floral and nutty elements with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a tight and deep core of bitter cherries and savoury, earthy red berry fruits and dried herbs, along with leathery nuances. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by floral lift, but balanced by fine, drying tannin grip that grows to provide a firm, textured mouthfeel. Subtle acid cut underlines the palate and the wine carries to an elegantly concentrated, lingering finish with dried cherry, herb and earthy nuances. This is a well concentrated, elegant, firm-textured Vino Nobile de Montepulciano with fruit richness and flavours of dried cherry, herbs and earth. Match with casseroles, slow-cooked game and hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from the ‘Lodola Nuova’ estate, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in oak. 17.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $24.99
